Unless we’re very mistaken, it looks like “Bobby” has officially shown up on Days of Our Lives as Everett’s behavior has taken a turn for the worse. Initially throwing out Jada’s divorce papers, canceling therapy with Marlena, acting hot and cold with Stephanie — about the only explanation we’ve got is that Everett is gone and Bobby is now running around.
With that said, we still aren’t entirely sure what’s going on or what went down in his and Jada’s past besides a disastrous marriage and loads of infidelity. But we may know the perfect person to help shed some light on Bobby and what he’s done — Jada’s mom! So far, we know even less about her than we do about Bobby, but when Soaps.com spoke with Elia Cantu a little while back, she let us know that this is someone she’s thought a lot about!
“Listen, I’m such a research nerd,” Cantu laughed. “Even when I got this job and I booked it, I went deep in the archives and the history of Marcus Hunter and all the women, the storylines he was in at that time during the ‘80s. So I’ve created my own theories between what actually aired that was in his storylines versus what’s now written for Jada — and even for my sister [Talia]. I kind of piece it together like clues.”
From what she’s been told so far, Cantu didn’t have a lot of hard facts on Jada’s mom, but she has quite a few ideas about her. “I would love for Jada’s mom to come around. I think that would be amazing.”
When we asked who she’d like to play Jada’s mom, the actress did not hesitate for a second. “Vivica A. Fox,” she said immediately. “I love Vivica Fox and I met her before and I told her, ‘I’m gonna work with you. We are going to work together.”
Fox, as we’re sure both her fans and daytime fans know, is no stranger to daytime. She’s been on The Young and the Restless in the mid ‘90s, was a main cast member of Generations from 1989 to 1991 and even appeared on Days of Our Lives in 1988 as Carmen Silva! And yes, that was the same time that Marcus was in Salem.
And after Cantu broke out her dream casting for Jada’s mom, inspiration started striking. “She comes in,” she mused, “You got me thinking… what would she be doing?
“Maybe she’s coming in to repair our relationship because Jada revealed that she wasn’t very fond of her ex-husband. That’s why Jada was scared that her dad wasn’t gonna be accepting because it was an interracial relationship. And she wanted her dad to like him so much. She was afraid of that because her mom wasn’t a fan of his.”
That, Cantu mused, may have put too much of a strain on their relationship and driven them apart — despite the fact that they really should have been working together to get Bobby out of Jada’s life!
“Jada still didn’t say why she came to Salem,” her portrayer pointed out. “She just said she came and her dad used to live here and work here. So maybe she came to get away from her mom and start her own life and maybe they have a toxic type of thing. So they try to repair the relationship.”
Of course, with all that’s come out about Everett and Bobby, maybe Jada just thought her mom didn’t like her ex because it was an interracial relationship. Maybe her mom actually knew more than she let on about Bobby and Jada just wasn’t ready to listen.
She could find out that not only is her daughter in Salem, but her ex-husband (technically, still current) husband is back there with her and come roaring into town, not just intent on repairing the relationship, but making sure Bobby doesn’t ever hurt Jada again!
But no matter what the storyline ends up being, Jada’s portrayer just wants the casting to happen. “I think Vivica’s so fierce and fabulous. And I think we resemble [each other] look wise. It would look realistic. I’m putting that out there.”
