Sad News: Eddie Mekka Died At The Age of 69!

In heartbreaking news, Eddie Mekka, the actor best known for his role as Carmine “The Big Ragu” Ragusa on the iconic ABC sitcom Laverne & Shirley, has passed away at the age of 69. Mekka died peacefully on November 27th at his home in Newhall, California. The announcement of his passing was made on his official Facebook page, although the cause of death has not yet been disclosed.

Following the news, tributes from Mekka’s former co-stars began pouring in on social media. Cindy Williams, who portrayed Mekka’s on-screen love interest on Laverne & Shirley, shared an emotional message, expressing her deep sorrow. “My darling Eddie, a world-class talent who could do it all. I love you dearly and will miss you so much, but I cherish the marvelous memories,” Williams wrote, also sharing a YouTube link featuring memorable moments from their time on the show. Another co-star, Michael McKean, took to Twitter, saying, “A sad goodbye to Eddie Mekka this morning. A genuinely good guy and purveyor of cheer whenever needed. RIP Eddie.”

Born on June 14, 1952, in Massachusetts, Mekka began his journey in the world of performance at the Worcester County Light Opera, where he also taught singing. His passion for acting eventually led him to Los Angeles, where he pursued his dream in the entertainment industry. Mekka made his television debut with Laverne & Shirley, a role that solidified his status as a beloved TV star.

Mekka’s career spanned decades, and he continued to appear in numerous television shows and films. Aside from Laverne & Shirley, he featured in popular series such as The Love Boat, Family Matters, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, and The Suite Life of Zack & Cody. His work in daytime television included roles on Guiding Light, The Bold and the Beautiful, and The Young and the Restless. His final TV appearances included a two-episode arc on The Bold and the Beautiful in 2005 and a role as Bud on The Young and the Restless in 2011.

Despite his extensive career, Mekka never fully retired from acting. He continued to take on movie roles until 2018. Eddie Mekka is survived by his second wife, Mary Grace, and their daughter. His first wife, actress DeLee Lively, also shared a part of his remarkable journey.

The world has lost a talented and kind-hearted performer, but his legacy on screen and in the hearts of his fans will live on.
