Days of Our Lives

Here’s Why Johnny Should Step Up On Days of our Lives

And why Chanel should be listening closely.

We had our suspicions about Johnny on Days of our Lives, and in recent weeks, he’s finally confirmed what we were all thinking: He’s a coward who hides his cowardice behind a Nice Guy facade. Here’s the proof.

Wrong Time, Wrong Place

Not too long ago, Johnny (Carson Boatman) waited until his wife was at her doctor’s appointment, wearing an embarrassing gown and still processing what she’d learned about her unborn baby, before Johnny decided to spring the news of his getting a job offer — in Los Angeles — on Chanel (Raven Bowens).

Chanel wasn’t thrilled to be finding out about the potential relocation so late in the game, not to mention that she wasn’t the first one to hear about it — Marlena (Deidre Hall) was. Chanel asked Johnny what he wanted to do. At which point Johnny admitted he couldn’t make a decision — would Chanel kindly do it for him?

Same Thing, Same Tune

Johnny babbled something about only wanting her happiness, how moving would affect her (true), and how he’s the perfect husband who would never dream of imposing his wants on his beloved wife. Uh-huh.

That’s the same line he laid on Chanel when she was trying to decide what to do about their potentially developmentally delayed unborn child. Only there, Johnny also mouthed the politically correct line about it being her body, her choice. No matter how often Chanel reminded him that it was THEIR baby, Johnny kept saying, “No, no, it’s your call.”

Two Choices, Two Cop Outs

Now, of course, after the June 25 episode of DAYS, it looks like their hastily made plans could change since Chanel is having an emergency with the baby. However, we don’t expect to see him step up and make any decisions, instead leaving it all to Chanel.

Johnny can frame it any way he likes. Still, we know what’s happening here: Johnny is too immature to make any important choices, whether it’s about his career or his child, so he is forcing Chanel to be the grown-up — while pretending it’s because he’s the bigger man. Is this the sort of man Chanel wants to parent a child with? She’ll be raising — and coddling — both of them.
